Chapter 9 : At present the concerns are for the using the platform of the social networking site. So, a small notes introduce each sites , its services and how it can be used for the ITGOA related matters as well as Assessing Officer concerned matters and also for the general and different purposes are discussed here under;
>> Groups: These services are provided by the google as well as yahoo. The basic difference are the attachments , in the yahoo groups the attachments can be up to 10 MB and the attachments will not available in archives. Whereas in google it is restricted to 1 MB only, but in the archives the same is available. Further it is in chapter 7 here under it is discussed in length.
>> Orkut : This is the social network site and all stuffs are available on the net , no emails like groups. The issue discussed in the Chapter 8 below;
>> Face book : This site is like orkut, but main focused on the individual account. To connect with individual sharing the information it is good. Specially for the school friends.
>> Blog : This is one type of online book writing. You can write many pages / many books. Everybody can see your work and can comment upon .

>> SMS Channel : In the modern world we need to reach many persons. In the Association like ITGOA, the information is required to reach every members. Email has its own limitation. Available when one is online , Person need to be have computer skill. The other option is reaching to all is SMS on mobile. All most all our members has the mobile and they are carrying it 24 hours a day. So SMS good tool to reach everybody sharing the information. Though the same has limited text width, but the content of message is good enough.
respected members, There are many free SMS channels available to send the SMSes, I found the google SMS channel is most appropriate for the association having members more than 100. The other appropriate is smsgupshup. I tried to discussed it as under :
1. Way2sms : This site provides the good opportunity to send the SMSes. But when it comes to sent the group SMSes, It is restricted to sent an SMS to 10 person per time. And when your members are 100+ (branches and unit) for sending one SMS you have to do it for more than 10 times.
[This site is very good to keep your contact here, in case of the lost mobile, you can retrieve the important contact numbers from the site]
2. Ibibo : Like above this site allow 20 SMS per go. Here it is easier than way2sms. Still it has restriction in sending the message to all in one go. However this is the good way to send the SMSes till the goole SMS is finally loaded.
[ In the way2sms , one is to add the contact to the site and then select that contact (max 10 ) and to sent the SMS , in case of latter i.e. ibibo we have to enter 20 mobile numbers in the “to” field and sent the SMS. It is convenient if one has all the mobile numbers in other text files and in bunch of 20. Just copy and paste will do the rest. ]
3. Smsgupshup : Now a days the traffic on this site is full . see what I seen on that site.
So site might not be available when it needed most.
4. Google SMS channel : One channel is to be created. Named say ITGOACHQ. (and ITGOAPNE, ITGOANWR, ITGOAMUM, ITGOAUPW,… , . there must be minimum 8 digit. Make sure that the digit are easily available on mobile. Avoide _, $ @ etc.. in the name)
All is to subscribe to this channel by the members. One time efforts is to be there. (It is simple to subscribe one is to send one SMS to 9870807070 having the text message prefised by “on “ followed by the SMS channel name. To experience send one sms to 9870807070 having text “on rajkumarsms” , without quote.
The sms sent to this channel will go to all its members who subscribed.
The silent feature of google SMS is; [not with the other sites)
> The site will sent the SMS during 8.00 am to 8.00 pm. Member will not be disrupted during night. And the sender also can send the message in the night, without distributing the members during the night. Early in the morning, the member will get the SMS.
> The site will not send more than 10 SMSes per day to any individual. No spamming.
> The site will not allow to sent more than 5 SMSes per 24 hours. Good for CHQ / branch leaders and the members. Especially in the event of election!!!!
Administrative Suggestion : For smooth function of the sms channel one creates, I suggest as under :
Ø A new Gmail account for the branch unit be created. And the sms channel will be created using this mail id.
Ø A mobile number of the person , who will send the SMS is to be registered with the SMS channel.
Ø So, whenever the change takes place in the office bearer the mobile number can be re-registered with the same sms channel and the new body can function efficiently with the same SMS channel.
[There may be other sites who provides the Free services, but I had not come across.]
Other than Free SMS sites, there are paid services also available. That may also be sued. The cost of SMS would be 25 paisa per SMS.
